Have a Good Time

Every summer has a list of party anthems. These are the tracks that, years later, will transport you back to some memorable time. At my age, I have a LOT of party anthems running in my head and sometimes they just leak out…. 😀

Music on the Brain
This song from LMFAO was big about seven years ago and the video cleverly combines LMFAO’s catchy anthem with the movie 28 Days Later. Instead of zombifying you into a mindless cannibal, the song turns you into a dancing fool.

Enjoy LMFAO’s Party Rock Anthem while you fire up your Friday. 😀

Well, it’s a relief. The fever has broken. World Cup fever, that is.
It’s been all footy, all the time here, since, well…last summer. Hubby and Moose are big fitba‘ fans (that’s the Scottish slang for the round kind of football, or soccer, if you’re unclear) and I’ve been a football widow since last August, when the EPL (English Premier League) season fired up. 🙂

If you’re also a fan, you might’ve caught this ad – Geico’s Longest Goal Celebration Ever, an amusing take on goal celebrations.  Don’t you wish you could celebrate your victories like this?

Happy Hump Day, celebrate the little things!

I’m a Fireball

Are you ready?
Ready for your day? Ready to wrap up the work week? Ready to start the weekend?
I’m starting my day with Pitbull’s Fireball. This song is a perfect way to end the week and seems so fitting for July (at least in south Texas).
The man knows how to throw a dance party, right?

Pitbull Im a fireball bw

If this doesn’t get you out of your seat (or at least chair dancing), I’ll come over and check your pulse. 🙂
Fireball is party of my Booty Shakers playlist, the mix I use to get up on bad mornings.
It doesn’t just get me moving, it gives me a little more optimism that I’m gonna rock my day.

BTW, Booty Shakers has songs with explicit lyrics, so it’s NSFW (not suitable for work). If you want something fun but G-rated, I keep those songs in Funky Friday. This is where I post all of my Friday blog songs. 🙂

Happiest of Hump Days, this fine June morning!
We’re embarking on a roadtrip to see our youngest matriculate. Like all college graduates, our wee Moose dreamed of this day and now it’s time to celebrate!

Speaking of dreams, I saw Tiffany & Co.’s ad, Believe in Dreams, recently. It caught my eye and ear for all kinds of reasons, including, of course, the music. Audio signatures are tough to beat when it comes to sticky advertising.

When you hear Moon River, do you think of Breakfast at Tiffany’s, the classic movie that starred Audrey Hepburn? Tiffany & Co. smartly work this concept into an upbeat, updated inspiration, especially if you like the color blue, dancing and whimsical jewelry.
It all begins with Elle Fanning window shopping, just like Audrey Hepburn did. Elle doesn’t look like she can afford anything in the window, but it doesn’t stop her from dreaming as she’s transported into the blue life with a little help from A$AP Ferg and a bee-dazzling friend.

One of the things I found surprising about this ad was the vocals – Elle Fanning sang the traditional version and A$AP Ferg contributed the rap. Who knew Elle could sing? And the mashup with A$AP Ferg was a really cool update to a classic that put him into the history books as the first rapper (and African American male) artist to represent Tiffany & Co.

The best ads give you more than a sales pitch; they build a web that attracts and holds you (like that sticky analogy? I’m pretty proud of it. :D). Sticky ads inspire you and help you remember the product. They make you want to stay engaged with the brand.

I think this ad is pretty sticky but will we all run out to Tiffany’s for a bauble? Maybe not. But I’ll bet most of you have window-shopped them for something special, something that symbolizes your dreams. Tiffany is counting on you to remember them when you have something to celebrate. 🙂

You Be You Boo

Happy Friday!
This one is for those who don’t fit the mold. Weirdo, geek, nerd… all the labels that meant we are Other.

Weirdo watermelon

The older I get, though, the more I realize all of us have felt Other at some point.

We all have the mental static getting in the way of being proud and strong in who we are.  We’re all different, aren’t we? That’s part of the fun of being human.

Being Other isn’t the problem. Feeling ashamed of your Otherness is. Don’t let someone else tell you what is good and true for you – or worse, that you don’t count.

Don’t let you tell yourself that either.

Believe in Yourself

Need something to replace the negative noise in your head? Put your paws up, cause you were Born This Way baby. (Lady Gaga version, in all her strangely glorious storytelling.)

“You’re beautiful in your way”, embrace your quirks, your weirdness. Be you, boo.

Need a little more encouragement? Here’s Glee’s Born This Way, with message tees, in case you think only the nerds hear the noise – see all those cool kids?

Sunshine for Your Pocket

The world can seem pretty ugly these days, can’t it? Is it any wonder we turn to entertainment for escape? Sometimes, we just want a happy ever after, a joyful place to visit for a bit. The Oscars are this weekend, offering up all kinds of beauty and one of the soundtracks caught my ear.

One of Original Song nominees is Justin Timberlake’s Can’t Stop the Feeling. I’ve mentioned this song before but it’s worth repeating – how do you not get up and dance along?  It looks like pretty much everyone has a little sunshine in their pocket.

Timberlake produced the music for Trolls and his fingerprints are all over it, including a cover of Earth Wind and Fire’s September – apparently, this is the first time the band re-recorded it, so they were in the studio with Timberlake and Anna Kendrick. Do you remember?

Been knocked around in traffic (see Traffic Jam)? How about Get Back Up Again, featuring Anna Kendrick?

I’m not giving up today

There’s nothing getting in my way

And if you knock knock me over

I will get back up again

If something goes a little wrong

Well you can go ahead and bring it on

‘Cause if you knock knock me over, I will get back up again

Feeling a bit whimsical? The opening song on the soundtrack is Hair Up. I’m half tempted to get a bucket of gel (5 gallons might do it)and put my hair in the air. Yeah, it’s a little silly but everyone could use a dose from a glitter bomb. YOLOoooooo!

Want another take on Sounds of Silence? Yes, seriously (more singing). It helps me relax. 😉

And, if you want some pure beauty, watch this video of Kendrick and Timberlake performing a cover of True Colors at the Cannes Film Festival. If you’re a cynic about live performances and lip synching, this one will restore a little faith. Ahhhhhhhhh. There’s that sunshine feeling.

Have a fabulous weekend, may you all have a little beauty. ❤
