Happy Hump Day!
As I get back into the writing groove (or at least public writing, school is kickin my writing bee hind), I’m starting up Hump Day ads again. This Humana (Gotta Believe) commercial grabbed my attention, as all good ads do. How do I love a good ad? Let me count the ways –
First, the music. Oh, the music. Feels! Elvis’s A Little Less Conversation makes my 20-something self want to put on a mini-dress and hit the town. (My 50-something self has no business in a mini, just saying.)
Second, more music! I found a fresh video of the song, A Little Less Conversation (Elvis v JXL). Fun, energetic, creative!
Third, I love a good message – This one is get up, get moving.
Imagine that, an ad that encourages you to take care of yourself…
The best businesses find a way to bring out your best while also satisfying their shareholders.
The best communities bring out the best in each other.
The best people bring out the best in each other. If not, we’re doing something wrong. (OK, Mom moment’s over, couldn’t help myself.)
I hope you have a day of “a little less conversation, a little more action”!
Hey, hey, hey!
Today’s the first of June, time to have a little pride! Plus, it’s about time I started posting again, right? How have y’all been, how have you managed the last year without a little funky Friday fun? I hope y’all made your own music ❤
Let’s start June off right with a little bit of Daphne Willis, Do It Like This.
Infectious enthusiasm? Check.
Energetic beat? Oh, yeah. Toes are tapping, booties are shaking.
Joyful? You bet. Confidence and an infectious beat.
Irrepressible joy – that’s what I’m talking about. How can you not join in?
DW makes me move on my toughest morning – she puts pep in my step.
C’mon! Join me on this glorious Friday with a little desk chair hustle, or some hallway struttin’. If anyone asks, invite them to dance along.
Want more Daphne Willis? I especially like her Somebody’s Someone – totally different from Do It Like This, btw. It’s the kind of song that reminds me that ‘them’ are ‘us’, that everyone belongs to someone. Ah, the feels!
Wow, we made it! I haven’t been so glad to see Friday since…. Ummm, well, last week. 😉
It’s been a bear of a week, hasn’t it? Just when you start to whine about your challenges, stop and think of those around you. I find it’s easier to let go of the frustration by empathizing, which means focusing on others and their experiences. This not only helps you shift your focus from you and your misery but also opens you up to supporting others. Isn’t that what community is all about?
Boulevard of Broken Dreams by Green Day makes me think of how hard it is to be isolated. Even though it’s a melancholy song, I find myself humming it. It’s also a great crowd-shout song for road trips….You know I can see y’all motoring to this. 😉
Need something a little more upbeat for your Friday? All American Rejects Move Along is an anthem to picking yourself up after a fall.
“When all you got to keep is strong,
Move along, move along, like I know you do
And even when your hope is gone
Move along, move along just to make it through….”
And I can’t help adding Traveling Wilbury’s End of the Line. It’s got me grooving while I clean up email this morning, imagining setting off on a great adventure.
I’ve got road trip music on my mind (can you tell?) – May y’all have great adventures this weekend!
Good morning and Happy Friday!
Has your week felt like a party that never ends? Sure it has! 😉
How about we “shake the stress away” with Rihanna’s Don’t Stop the Music? That part where she’s sitting in a corner and dancing? Hold onto that thought as you work your way through your day. No matter how challenging our week, we can still find the energy and joy that comes from within.
And I hafta say, you gotta love that she’s worked in a riff from the King of Pop.
If you know someone who thinks these musical bits are a waste of time, check out Forbes Level Up, where researchers state that we’re more productive on days we exercise. There’s both a physical and mental benefit to exercise, even from a little chair dancing. So get your groove on and get your day done!
Enjoy your day, take a minute to stretch or (wheee) go for a walk, it’ll make your day better!
GM, it’s Wednesday!
Why do some things go viral while others don’t? IMO, it’s because the viral item catches our attention, holds it and fulfills a need or want. It makes us feel something. What do you feel when you see this Jeep ad, 4x4ever? Sure, some of you couldn’t care less about offroading and you might even see 4x4s as gas guzzlers (sorry to be a Debbie Downer…). Take a listen to the ad, though, and see if the song doesn’t pull you in anyway. There’s also Matt Dorr’s full length version of the song. I’m not even slightly rugged and it makes me want to get up and go somewhere “’cause I like to fly free”.
Whoot, it’s FRIDAY!
Tonight, let’s all celebrate another week done, shall we? Sure it’s been tough (again!) and not everything (or much?) went our way but life is more fun when we have a few challenges. Ha! How about you Raise Your Glass with Pink and celebrate with me? I love her music, she has a sense of playfulness despite her edges showing.
My favorite line: Raise your glass if you’re wrong in all the right ways. That’s me (and a few of you, which is why I love you)! Gotta love her energy, that beat is gonna rock my office all day long.
Raise your glass with me tonight, be it water or wine – take a minute and celebrate each other!
Wooohooooooooooooooo! It’s hump day! Are you ready? It’s time to check a few things off of this week’s to do list and get ready to complete the rest by Friday. How will you get them all done? 😀
You know the phrase, “Keep Calm and Carry On?” Did you know it was a form of a PSA (Public Service Announcement, a type of advertising) from the British government in 1939? I wonder what the creators of this slogan would think if they saw all of the ways it’s used today…talk about a sticky slogan! AT&T’s gotten in on the popular meme with its Keep Calm Your Internet’s On ad.
What’s your favorite from the list of “Keep calm and…” in the ad? I’m pretty sure the creators of Keep Calm wouldn’t recognize most of those statements; for example, “stream” would have been a noun, not a verb, in 1939. Then there is the whole concept of cat videos…I can see my Grandpa Ralph’s face reacting to that genre. 🙂
Ever wonder what people do on the internet? Ok, maybe not, LOL. But us data nerds do wonder how much is done on the internet every hour. Check out this picture from equities.com to fill you in.
